Year of Projects Week 34

As will probably be kind of obvious, settling in to clinical has taken up most of my time this week, and so I've not had much time for crafting. I'm still plugging away at the Scarf of Doom. It's now 64 inches (5 foot 4) and I think I'm nearly at the point where I can do the pattern at the end and then it'll be finished. Only problem is, I can't try it on the boy to check as he's not here at the moment. How long a scarf does a 6 foot 4 person really need though?

I really, really can't wait to finish it! I've been having a look at my list, and it's way too ambitious! There is no way I'm going to be able to finish everything on it in the next 20 weeks, so I think most of it will roll over to next year.

I did get a nice evening out on Sunday as well, so I couldn't even do much crafting this weekend. I went to the joint Asian Soc and Hindu Soc production Kangna,  as two of my friends were in it, once doing traditional and Bhangra dancing, and one in the fashion show in an amazing sari. There was also Bollywood, Street, Breakdancing, beat boxing, traditional music, and a comedy play. It was so much fun, and really professional.

Hopefully some time soon, I'll have a finished project to show you!

  2. I hate to say it, but you need at least another foot for that scarf. The general rule I've found is that it needs to be as long as the person is tall...at least. A good test is to fold it in half and see where it lands. Then again, you can't try it on the boy...so once it's too long for you, should be good :)

Of course, if you make the Doctor Who Scarf, it'll always be long enough :)

  3. sorry to say, but you'll be knitting that scarf a while yet! I just tried a seven foot scarf on my 6'4" boyfriend and he said it was the perfect length (wrapped round his neck once with the ends hanging down in front, they reached to just above his waist).

I said to him "now, imagine this scarf isn't pink, orange and fluffy, but actually black, with a Warhammer aquila at each end, is it the right length?" and he replied "yes, because men tend to wear their scarves on the outside of their clothes. can I have one please?"

  4. I agree with Renee, you should make it the same length as hi :) so another foot.

It sounds like you had a good evening out on Sunday :)

  5. I agree with the other ladies, general rule of thumb is the same length as they are tall....unless, it's a dress scarf to be worn with a suit and dress coat. Then it should be shorter, as they're worn on the inside of the coat. For my charity, I suggest people make a scarf no shorter then 6 foot for the average man. For some that will be long, others short.

  6. My brother is 6'7" and his scarf needs to be around 6' long to be a good wrapping scarf.

Don't fret on the list. I have some items on mine that will have to carry over. :) At least we are trying!

  7. Don't forget to enjoy the pure knitting of this scarf. It will be well-loved and well-worn and for now, I hope you enjoy the feel of the yarn between your fingers!

  8. Yeah, hate to say it, that's the rule of thumb I've heard too--long as tall. But I'm all for some knitterly denial if it gets you through...

  9. Glad the scarf of doom is making progress and I think I'd go with the girls and say as long as the person anyway. You are so nearly there though so keep plugging away.

  10. It sounds like a lot of scarf, but I know that proportionately, you do have a foot or so to go!

  11. I usually make a scarf as long as one would be able to wear it European Loop style.
