New fibre

I've been taking part in the UKarma group on Ravelry which is a brilliant idea. You offer up something you don't want, and somebody claims it. They then have to offer up another item in response for somebody else to claim. If you offer up an item without claiming something first, you get a nice point, which you can redeem against any offer that is made.

I offered up a cone of sparkly blue "yarn" (I say "yarn" because it wasn't really yarn, but I have no other way of describing it. I then used my nice point to get myself some fibre someone else was offering.
It came yesterday, and I'm so excited to practise my spinning and dying. There's about 60g of unidentified wool, and 50g of wool and linen, which I'm not sure how to spin or dye. I guess some experimenting is in order!

  1. Ooooh, linen. I don't know what to do with it either (except I don't think I'd dye it), but I love all things linen. Have fun!

  2. Ahh, you're the second person to mention linen. I've never knit with it before but think I may have to this spring. Happy spinning.

  3. I think linen needs a different type of dye, as it is plant rather than animal fibre, but that's about as much as I know (if it's a blend, the animal fibre will take up the dye and it works pretty well, I did it with a wool/tencel blend).
