Year of Projects Week 43

My Pudsey Park hoodie is coming along really well this week. I've finished all the bits, stitched the shoulders and I've nearly done the hood. I should get that finished tonight, then all I need to do is seam it and knit the button band. I laid it all out together to see how it looked.
It actually looks like it's going to fit, which is exciting. My only problem is that I have no idea how to block it, as the yarn is 80% acrylic, 20% wool. Will it work to just soak it a bit then lay it out to shape or should I steam it? What do you think?

  1. I would wash it and lay it out. Probably no need to pin anything. Would think you'ld be able to smooth it out, tug a bit here and there...and let it dry.

  4. I found a lovely tutorial about how to block acrylic: http://beadknitter.blogspot.com/2009/03/you-can-block-acrylic.html

It looks like you'll need blocking wires, your boards, and a steam iron of some sort.

And yes, the results will be permanent. Even after playing in the washer and dryer.

  6. Steaming is the way to go for acrylic blends - just take it slow and don't go too far to begin with - you can block more but you can't block less!

    It looks beautiful :)

  7. definitely steam. my hooded cowl was 80% acrylic 20% wool and it blocked beautifully just pinned out to size and gently steamed with my steam iron.

nat's advice is sound. less is more! you can't undo steaming acrylic so be careful.
