3KCBWday7 - Crafting Balance

I know that this post is meant to be a balance between knitting and crochet, but as I said yesterday, I don't crochet. My big crafting loves are knitting and sewing, with an emphasis on counted cross stitch.

I will admit that I do far more knitting than sewing, mainly because I can watch TV and knit, whereas I can't watch anything and cross stitch. I find stitching takes a lot more attention and brain power to complete, and when I'm tired on an evening, I don't want to be concentrating hard on something.

I would like to cross stitch (and embroider) more. I have a lot of unfinished projects and unstarted kits in cross stitch that I want to get cracking on, plus an embroidery piece for my gran that I know will take several years to complete, but will be so worth it when it's done.

I need to have a free day that I can sit down with a good audiobook and work on my sewing though, and that's not looking likely any time soon. I have noticed that I tend to sew a lot more on holiday. I regularly buy the cross stitch kits that the National Trust produce when I visit an area, or from a local craft shop of a local landmark, and get these finished whilst I'm actually in the place I bought it.

I do find sewing relaxing, but I'm very slow and therefore don't see much progress. I've only finished one big piece, and I'm very proud of it
I think I might need to get the sewing out again, I've got the bug!

  1. I used to be a cross stitcher, but I haven't touched it since I picked up yarn. I am working my way through my perle by using it for crocheted things and embroidering on felted things.

  2. I did some cross stitch many years ago. I don't think my eyesight could cope with it now!! Perhaps I need to invest in some glasses!

  3. I used to cross stitch, and I really liked it. However, I like knitting more. Plus, I've just begun embroidering my own designs, and that is really, really fun!

  4. My cross stitch is buried in it's holding bin and hasn't seen the light of day in years... perhaps I should venture forth and bring it out. Now you've got me thinking...

  5. My mom was a cross stitcher. She tried to get me to do it but it was so fiddly I kept losing things. I guess it's a little hard to cross stitch on the go.

  6. I started out with cross stitch when I was little...like 8 years old. The neighbor girls (who were 6 and 8 years older than me, respectively) taught me. I gave my first finished piece to my 5th grade teacher. I think it was a rocking horse or something like that. My second "big" piece is probably halfway finished and is in a bag that I just found. I might drag it out and finish it someday. We'll see. I'll have to figure out where I was, first...

It's funny. I can read cross stitch charts but have difficult with knitting charts...

I'm weird. I'm okay with it.

  7. I've never crossed stitch ... well, maybe as a young girl but I always admire it when I see it. I think it's great that you have that skill and enjoy it. Hope you get to incorporate more cross stitching into your life.

  8. I've never done proper cross stitch - yours is so pretty! I'd love some crossed stitched cushions for my sofa and a cross stitched piano seat cover .... maybe I better learn!

  10. I love your needlework! I think it is tough to find a balance between crafts when you have limited time.
