Free Pattern: Celtic Knot Hexipuff

 photo DSCF3940_zps0b3c3734.jpg

This is a chart for a celtic knot cable which can be used with hexipuffs from the Beekeeper's Quilt pattern by Tiny Owl Knits. This pattern does not give instructions on how to make a hexipuff, it just has the chart for the cable. The equivalent purl increases and decreases should be used, instead of the ones given in the pattern.

Free Pattern - Warhammer Double Knit Scarf

Well I have finally got round to writing up the pattern for this scarf. It's been a long time coming, but you can now download the PDF pattern here and find it on Ravelry here.

This scarf measures 7 feet 4 inches (88 inches) length by 9.5 inches width, and the double layered double knit fabric mixed with the lusciously soft yarn makes it something to snuggle up in which will keep you warm in the coldest weather. Plus the colours mean that it is perfect for either men or women, the only requirements are a liking for Warhammer. The double headed aquilla logo celebrates the famous models without being too loud or obvious; a great way to subtly show off your geekery.

Yarn used: Rowan DK Cashsoft, Black, 11 skeins
Rowan Pure Wool DK, Yellow, 0.5 skeins

Yarn requirements: 1550 - 1650 yards MC, 65 - 100 yards CC

Needles: 3.5mm straight
Gauge: 12 stitches, 17 rows in 2 inches, measured on one side of the double layered fabric only.
This is not a very difficult pattern, though it does take a long time to do, so I would suggest that some knowledge of double knitting is useful.
If you are a beginner at double knitting, I can highly recommend the tutorial and instructions found here: http://www.knittinghelp.com/c/free-knitting-patterns-heart-double-knit-hot-pad
A video tutorial for the cast on used can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=GQpsC1FKGrU

Hair bow - free pattern

I finished my hair bow pattern for kitty and realised it would make a lovely hair ornament for a very girly girl, so I thought I'd give you the pattern in case anybody wants to make it!

Now available as a free PDF: Download now

Here are me and kitty both wearing it. All I did was to exchange the hair bobble for velcro for kitty

Pattern:
Needles: 3mm
Yarn: DK (I used Paton's Fab DK)
Gauge: 26 stitches to 4inches/10cm

In the main colour, make 2 alike
CO 26
Gt-st 30
Cast off

Sew all edges together with mattress stitch. Then using a spare length of yarn, put a hair band on the back and wrap the yarn round both the hair band and the sewed together rectangles to make a bow shape. Pictures as this is hard to explain:

Click for larger image

The bow can be left like this, or a centre piece can be knitted in a contrasting colour:
CO 7
St-st 28
Cast off

Wrap around the centre of the bow and secure at the back

The flower is also optional – if adding, attach to the centre band before sewing the band onto the bow

CO 4
Knit though front and back of each stitch (8)
Knit though front and back of each stitch (16)
Cast off loosely
Sew edges together

Sew to centre band and sew a cross stitch in the middle

And there you have it, a pretty hair ornament for a pretty girl, or for a hello kitty build-a-bear if you're very cool like me!
