A lot has changed in the past year since I posted, and it's going to be very hard to summarise the past few months, but here goes:<br />
<ul>
<li>Graduated from medical school</li>
<li>Spent two months in Malawi, Africa working in a hospital</li>
<li>Moved back up to Leeds</li>
<li>Started my years as a junior doctor</li>
<li>Finished my first of 6 4 month job placements, and moved on to the second</li>
</ul>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So yes, in a nutshell, very busy. I stopped blogging whilst working towards my medical school finals, which obviously took up an awful lot of my time and energy, and then wasn't really able to blog whilst in Africa, as there wasn't really any reliable internet connection. Hopefully I can do a blog post about my time there, as it was an incredible time, but no promises!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Connor and I then moved to Leeds so I could start my junior doctor training, and rented our first proper house. We've furnished it with freebies and charity shop things, but it is lovely and it really feels like home. In August, I started officially working as a doctor, in gastroenterology, and the first 4 month job just flew by. It was a terrify, exhilarating and confusing time, and I feel like I almost learnt more doing it than my 5 years in medical school. I'm now working in paediatrics, just coming to the end of 2 months in paediatric surgery, before I move on yet again to paediatric medicine.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I am loving work, I have met some amazing people and seen some incredible things. I am now completely sure that I picked the right career for me, and I'm looking forward to many more years doing it.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And now, the knitting. It was not a very productive year for me, what with everything else that was going on, but this is what I made:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/FOs4_zpsxqxhxj9p.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/FOs4_zpsxqxhxj9p.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
At the top on the left are baby projects. We now have two new babies in the family (though one is a toddler now), and I made them a gift each over Christmas. I love the design of the blanket, <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sleeping-babys-castle-blanket">Sleeping Baby's Castle</a>, I think the knitted castle is incredible.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Bottom left are charity items, three preemie hats and three innocent smoothie bottle hat for the Big Knit in aid of Age UK.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Top right are socks, including what may well be my favourite knitted socks, <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sock-strap">Sock Strap</a>. It's an amazing construction, the back in knitted, then the sides picked up and knitted outwards from the back, with the top knitted down after that. There is also <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hopsox">Hopsox</a>, made as a birthday gift for my best friend, in my hand dyed wool, and the socks I knitted Connor for Christmas 2013, which were written about in my last blog post!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Bottom right is a present I made for my Mum. It's a modified version of <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/anthemion-wrap">Anthemion</a>, in hand spun silk yarn. I only had 68g of yarn, so I turned the wrap into a scarf, and modified the number of middle repeats, using every scrap of yarn.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The latest thing I have knitted is <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/saioa">Saioa</a>, in a squishy BFL single bought from a spinner at the Westmoreland County Show. It's really soft and warm, perfect considering the snow we've been having!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/image_zpssaakzv5x.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/image_zpssaakzv5x.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I am still knitted. I actually finished one more project in the last year, and wore it a couple of times, before deciding it was just too small. This is <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/arielle">Arielle</a>, and my gauge was slightly off, and so I have frogged the whole thing and am now reknitting it on slightly larger needles. Yes, I am crazy, but I love the pattern so much that it was a shame I would never wear it<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF7064_zpswnoji1pl.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF7064_zpswnoji1pl.jpg" height="320" width="258" /></a></div>
<a href="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/WIPs/IMG_2079_zps8fuivd0r.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/WIPs/IMG_2079_zps8fuivd0r.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've also finished a none knitting project. This is a whole new thing for me, branching out into furniture! I mentioned that we have furnished out house with second hand furniture which was gifts from family or from the charity shop (I should really do a blog tour, you might be surprised at how nice some of it can be). I was given a gift of a set of 1970s nested tables, which were varnished in a hideous dark orange brown. They were practical, but really not very nice. So, on my last week off work, I set about stripping them down, and doing them up</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/Pictures_zpswbmtueod.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/Pictures_zpswbmtueod.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I stripped off the varnish, sanded them down and waxed them. The wood underneath was lovely, and I wanted to show it off. The first two pictures of the rows show off the before and after best, and the biggest table has found a home next to my spinning wheel, where it goes rather nicely.<br />
<br />
So there you have it. I will try and blog more regularly, because it would be lovely to get back into blogging a bit more. Hopefully I can do a few more posts to fill in the gaps, because this barely seems to do justice to what has been a whirlwind year!Emma (GirlAnachronismE)http://www.blogger.com/profile/07354226176191037080noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1467539665147220343.post-46580533722146505302013-12-04T12:59:00.004+00:002013-12-04T12:59:36.032+00:00Third Year of Projects Week 20 to 22I'm really not doing well at updating here!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4695_zpsdf894481.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4695_zpsdf894481.jpg" border="0" height="281" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4695_zpsdf894481.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
If you remember last time I posted, I had been working on my Shetland fleece. I've now carded a good chunk more and also spun a full skein of yarn. It's 91g of DK weight, 169 yards, and has an identical grist to my sample, which I was really pleased with, as it means my spinning is consistent enough to spin a jumper's worth of yarn from this fleece. The only problem might be yardage, but I'm doing to see what I get when I've finished spinning it all, and hopefully it will be enough.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4641_zps713358fe.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4641_zps713358fe.jpg" border="0" height="297" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4641_zps713358fe.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I also have an update to the yarn that I stripped of colour last week. As you can see, I tried to strip the colour from a few skeins, but only one worked.The others became slightly lighter, but not enough to be usable. Also, the yarn became quite rough and brittle, which will be fine for my quilt, but I wouldn't<span style="font-family: inherit;"> suggest doing this for yarn destined for clothing. </span><span style="font-family: inherit;">I</span> then overdyed the one that worked using Wilton's Icing Dyes. I did a bit of experimenting, first trying to paint stripes on in Royal Blue and Sky Blue, which just led to a large amount of blue dye water all over my kitchen, and I think I would need more of paste to do this.<br />
<br />
So after a bit of mopping so I didn't dye my entire kitchen blue, I rubbed the Royal Blue dye paste directly on to the yarn in a random fashion, wrapped it in cling film and microwaved it. This worked to an extent, but the yarn was still majoritively grey, and the blue dye had not been completely heat set, so I overdyed it in a pot on the stove with Sky Blue. I was hoping for a slightly lighter colour than I got, to show the colour variations better, but I'm happy with this yarn, and I can definitely use it now, which is a plus.<br />
<div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4655_zps65a990ab.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4655_zps65a990ab.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4655_zps65a990ab.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4654_zps44692bd9.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4654_zps44692bd9.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4654_zps44692bd9.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
There's also been a few knitting finishes. I finished the minion hat that I was making last week. I ended up merging two patterns and modifying them both. I used the knitting pattern from one hat with the eye from a different hat which was entirely crochet<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF4648_zps5841950e.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4648_zps5841950e.jpg" border="0" height="304" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF4648_zps5841950e.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This was made for a friend, and a mutual friend and I threw her a full minion themed birthday, so this was made to match the cake we made (she baked, it's coffee and walnut, and I tasted, then we both decorated. Plus we made a cake for the minion cake, so we wouldn't have to cut into the minion straight away).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://scontent-a-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/1441547_10151873967058113_1541122491_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://scontent-a-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/1441547_10151873967058113_1541122491_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This project (the hat and the cake) involved transporting 4 bags of cake baking equipment and an entire bag of yarn to our rented flat, as we were on placement about 2 hours away during the week, baking and crafting like mad, and then transporting the cake, the hat and all the supplies back with us without breaking anything, so it was a real labour of love! I think it was appreciated though.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc3/1471237_10151890822988113_1828912733_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc3/1471237_10151890822988113_1828912733_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The other big finish was the design for my waterfall cowl, which I am so happy with. It's really soft and snuggly and I'm still in love with the stitch pattern<br />
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF46641_zps123eb15f.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF46641_zps123eb15f.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF46641_zps123eb15f.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF46761_zps962bec2c.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF46761_zps962bec2c.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF46761_zps962bec2c.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I think that it is the perfect length, because it wraps warmly around the neck, but also can be left to hang loose without being too long. It's also reversible:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF46871_zpscfac16c6.jpg.html" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF46871_zpscfac16c6.jpg" border="0" height="221" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF46871_zpscfac16c6.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF46841_zps50e5bfc7.jpg.html" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF46841_zps50e5bfc7.jpg" border="0" height="220" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF46841_zps50e5bfc7.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In case you can't tell, I'm really proud of this pattern, which is currently being test knit, and should hopefully be released pretty soon. I also taught myself to photoshop because I could not get a colour correct picture of this greeny-blue, and I think the photos came out pretty well as well. It's definitely a useful skill to have.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF46911_zps544f4a68.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF46911_zps544f4a68.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF46911_zps544f4a68.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And last but not least, what I'm actually working on at the moment. As this is the first update in December, I think I need a hexipuff update, I'm up to 74 puffs which is pretty good. I'm now frantically Christmas knitting, and as Connor has been bugging me for a pair of socks for ages, I'm making him some</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Size 10 men's socks on 2.5mm needles! And only in stockinette too! I must really love him...</div>

Emma (GirlAnachronismE)http://www.blogger.com/profile/07354226176191037080noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1467539665147220343.post-48330355851103705262013-11-12T12:51:00.002+00:002013-11-12T12:51:24.216+00:00Third Year of Projects Week 15 to 19So I know I have been away for a very long time, life got really busy and I have been on a placement that involves staying away from home during the week, and I've only just got myself settled in really.<br />
<br />
This is going to be a picture heavy post, because even though I've not been at home, the knitting hasn't stopped, it's just getting moved about. I've been working on my Shetland fleece, it's all been washed, and I've carded a good chunk, as well as spinning up and knitting a few samples<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4443_zpsf37e24c4.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4443_zpsf37e24c4.jpg" border="0" height="314" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4443_zpsf37e24c4.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I was playing around with both 2ply and 3ply of different single thickness, and knitting them up to see the finished product, and I have to say, I wasn't expecting the striping that I got. It must be because each of the rollags I originally carded had a different combination of colours in it, so after knitting these, I decided to split the wool by colour as well as softness to get a more even coloured yarn, because I'm not a big fan of the stripes.<br />

<br />
I've also been working on my crochet skills, and made another couple of characters from the book <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources/creepy-cute-crochet">Creepy Cute Crochet</a> as a gift for my friend. I'm getting a bit better at reading my crochet now, and I also learnt a few new skills like crocheting through the back loop, and crocheting on a tiny hook with embroidery thread. They're still not perfect by any means, the girl's head is bigger than the guy's, even though they're from the same pattern, and her headband looks nothing like the one in the pattern! Also, my embroidery leaves something to be desired, as I could not get the girls face to look right.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF4478_zps4a788648.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4478_zps4a788648.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF4478_zps4a788648.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And onto WIPs. The Blue Beekeeper's Quilt is going well. Puffs are the perfect portable project for when I'm away, so I've been making quite a few, and I'm now up to 70 puffs. There are a few colours that don't seem to fit, and I'm not sure if they'll make it into the finished blanket, but we will see... I might overdye some of them<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/WIPs/DSCF4634_zps9ebc970d.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4634_zps9ebc970d.jpg" border="0" height="278" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/WIPs/DSCF4634_zps9ebc970d.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And talking of overdying, I have been playing with stripping colour out of yarn to then overdye. I had a load of black yarn from a job lot on ebay, which I was pretty sure I would never use, and some pre-dye dye remover, so I decided to give it a go. I ended up only using about half of this yarn, because I had to use the dye remover twice to get any result at all. And boy did it smell bad!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4485_zps4ba6211b.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4485_zps4ba6211b.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4485_zps4ba6211b.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Out of 5 skeins (between 30 and 50g each), I only managed to strip any dye out of one. And it came out a tangled mess, because you constantly have to stir the yarn .</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4486_zps067cc34e.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4486_zps067cc34e.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4486_zps067cc34e.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But after detangling, it looks like it is overdyable. I have to say though, it's made the yarn feel a a bit brittle, and I can't say it was a perfect success. Nothing ventured, nothing gained though I probably won't do this again.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/WIPs/DSCF4625_zps68e953ce.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4625_zps68e953ce.jpg" border="0" height="232" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/WIPs/DSCF4625_zps68e953ce.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I have had a few problems with startitis as well recently. I've been wanting to design this cowl for a while, and I recently blocked some shawls for a lady on Ravelry, and she sent me this yarn in return, and let me say, the picture really does not do it justice. It's <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/yarns/library/fyberspates-scrumptious-4ply">Fyberspates Scrumptious 4ply</a>, and I am in love with this yarn. It's a much more turquoise colour, and it has a beautiful sheen and drap because of the silk content, and it's so soft!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/WIPs/DSCF4627_zpsb2d2de6e.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4627_zpsb2d2de6e.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/WIPs/DSCF4627_zpsb2d2de6e.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I've also started a minion hat, as a silly gift for a friend's birthday. Another friend is making her a minion cake, so I thought that this would go along with that perfectly.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/WIPs/DSCF4440_zps9b8006e1.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4440_zps9b8006e1.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/WIPs/DSCF4440_zps9b8006e1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
And finally, these are the socks I was working on last time I posted. After turning the heel, I realised they were much too small, and so I had to frog back to the cuff, and start again on bigger needles. They're in time out for a bit, as I can't really face reknitting them at the moment.<br />
<br />
So there you have it, a whistle-stop tour of my last month of crafting!<br />

<br />
But in terms of knitting, I started a new pair of socks, which I think will be a birthday gift to my best friend. The pattern is <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hopsox">Hopsox</a> and I hand dyed the yarn using Wiltons Icing dyes earlier in the year. I was hoping for a semi-solid, and I think it worked really well<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/WIPs/DSCF4417_zpse9472d34.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4417_zpse9472d34.jpg" border="0" height="297" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/WIPs/DSCF4417_zpse9472d34.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The pattern is interesting because the cables are ribbed, and there is no chart! Also, the stitch pattern is written on a different page to the leg instructions, and is not just repeated across the leg of the sock. It's pretty easy once you have got through a bit of the pattern, because it's simple to remember, but it did confuse me for a while.<br />
<br />
I also got some modelled pictures of my Speleology socks<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF4406_zps94d8f0fe.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4406_zps94d8f0fe.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF4406_zps94d8f0fe.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF4409_zpsaf6b257b.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4409_zpsaf6b257b.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF4409_zpsaf6b257b.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF4414_zps2520bafd.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4414_zps2520bafd.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF4414_zps2520bafd.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
So, real life. I'm currently having to decide where abouts in the country I want to be for the next two years, which involves an awful lot of research and trying to decide what my priorities are for work. I have to visit every separate deanery's website, find the relevant information, synthesise it into a document that means I can compare it with other deaneries, and look at the jobs available in that area. It's a lot of work, and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed! In addition, Connor is currently also job hunting, which means that he's trying to find jobs in areas he's interested in (or really any job), but with him being unemployed, it's taken a toll on our finances.<br />
<br />
And finally, I spent today packing since I have to move to a small town about 3 hours away for placement, and I will be commuting up there at the end of each weekend, and travelling back home for teaching on a Friday. It's very difficult to know what is best to take if I'm only there for weekdays, and I need bedding and food etc. So, it's been a busy week, and I have a feeling next week will be just as busy! Hopefully we can get it all sorted out soon though!<br />
<br />

<br />
I think the main thing this week is that the Speleology socks have been finished!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF4385_zps94ffa7dd.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4385_zps94ffa7dd.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF4385_zps94ffa7dd.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I'm actually not too sure about them. It's nothing to do with the pattern, they fit really well, the best of any cabled socks I have made, as the leg has more stitches than the foot, which is perfect for fitting around the calf and ankle. However, I was using the pattern to learn to cable without a cable needle, which means that the tension isn't great throughout the entire sock, and is really bad at the start of the first sock. Also, I had real problems with the yarn twisting, partly I think because I bought it in a destash and it came in a ball rather that a hank or centre pull skein. It meant I had to stop every couple of rows to let it untwist, and I think it has contributed to my funny tension.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF4366_zps4a3a68a4.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4366_zps4a3a68a4.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF4366_zps4a3a68a4.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF4375_zps017c27bb.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4375_zps017c27bb.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF4375_zps017c27bb.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I also spent today making two preemie hats as a quick and easy project, because I'm not feeling too well. I love the fluffy pink yarn in the second one, I think baby hats are the perfect use for novelty yarn, as it's really soft. These used up every scrap of all three yarns, which is perfect!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/5825787323_4738d46a99_z-001_zps2ca68ebf.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo 5825787323_4738d46a99_z-001_zps2ca68ebf.jpg" border="0" height="107" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/5825787323_4738d46a99_z-001_zps2ca68ebf.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>

There isn't much to say about it that hasn't already been said really!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/WIPs/DSCF4343_zpsc0447bc3.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4343_zpsc0447bc3.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/WIPs/DSCF4343_zpsc0447bc3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I've done pretty well so far, but I did have 7 hours of train knitting to work on it, because I went to visit my best friend this weekend, and the already long train journey was delayed by an hour. At least it was sunny on the station, but my pattern nearly blew away!<br />
<br />
It was a really good weekend. I'm thinking of moving up to her city next year, so we went to look at the hospital and to every yarn shop in the city (6 I think). I didn't buy anything, but not due to lack of things to buy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/599701_10153259993080156_1039918252_n_zpsd5211c87.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo 599701_10153259993080156_1039918252_n_zpsd5211c87.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/599701_10153259993080156_1039918252_n_zpsd5211c87.jpg" width="225" /></a></div>
<br />
Yes, we were being stupid, but she loved Cthulhu. He is now on her bookshelf with Sidney the Dugong in a top hat and Arnold the owl cushion (she gets all the stupid things that I make...). There were some nice pictures but apparently the only one I have is us messing around with duckface.<br />
<br />

<br />
I am really proud of these socks. They were knitted as part of my year of projects, but I couldn't share pictures as I submitted them to a magazine. Although the magazine didn't want them, I decided to self publish on Ravelry, and they're my first pay pattern. I had to figure out the stitch pattern from scratch, to get them to look the way that I imagined them in my head, and they came out perfectly. Plus the pattern is really stretchy, so they fit perfectly, and the yarn is really soft and comfy.<br />
<br />
I've also been knitting preemie items again.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF4330_zps0daca826.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4330_zps0daca826.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF4330_zps0daca826.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF4336_zpsac915bab.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4336_zpsac915bab.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF4336_zpsac915bab.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Finally my Speleology socks are progressing slowly, the heel is turned and I'm about half way down the foot. I'm trying to press on with them, but I have to say, my attention is wandering. I'm not great at sticking to cabled socks, and I was hoping that cabling without a cable needle would make it easier. I do like them though, so I will persevere and get them done!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/WIPs/DSCF4341_zps73ef42b2.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4341_zps73ef42b2.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/WIPs/DSCF4341_zps73ef42b2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
No pictures, but I've also finished washing my Shetland fleece, and have ended up with just over 600g of fleece to card and spin. Hopefully enough to make a jumper, if I can keep my spinning consistent.<br />

<br />
It's been a really busy week again, which has meant that not much knitting has been done. I didn't do much at all at the start of the week, but this weekend I've been working on my latest pair of socks, in between cleaning the entire house. It's amazing how much more relaxed I feel now that it's all clean and tidy!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/WIPs/DSCF4322_zpsfccf03f0.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4322_zpsfccf03f0.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/WIPs/DSCF4322_zpsfccf03f0.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The pattern is <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/speleology">Speleology</a> from Knitcircus, an e-magazine which I won in a giveaway last year. I'm using <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/yarns/library/woolhunter-working-sock">Woolhunter Working Sock</a>, in the colourway Ice Maiden and I'm loving the way that the two colours spiral round the sock. I am a bit concerned, because the pattern said to use 2mm needles, and I decided to knit size small with 2.5mm. This meant casting on 66 stitches, which is perfect for me, but I didn't realise that the stitch count increased after the ribbing up to 72. I'm hoping they won't be too big, but if they are, I'm sure I can find a home for them with my best friend! I'm using this pattern to learn to cable without a cable needle, so the cables aren't always perfectly neat, but my gauge is improving as I go, and hopefully they'll all even out in blocking.<br />
<br />
Since I finished cleaning up, I also started to work with my fleece. I've split it into 10 bags by area of sheep and coarseness, and I'm starting to wash it. I can only do this because Connor is away visiting his parents, as sheep fleece is really bad for his asthma. Each bag weighs between 65 and 100g, so hopefully it is well separated and I won't need to do much moving around of fibre before carding.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4319_zps81a2212e.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4319_zps81a2212e.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4319_zps81a2212e.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
In case you're wondering, Connor is feeling much better, though he still has some memory loss, and has tests later this week to figure out what the cause was, fingers crossed it all goes ok!<br />
<br />
I've been on call for trauma this week, so I've seen lots of fractures and complex injuries. I seem to have done a lot of holding of limbs, though I was complimented on my stitching in theatre on Thursday! I think it's all the fibre crafts I do, it's very good for hand eye coordination and detail work.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I have finished spinning my Juno Angora/Tussah, and it is beautiful. It's really soft and silky, as I was saying before, and I only lost 3g due to the felting in the end, which I don't think is bad. I'm also pretty proud of how well I judged the singles, the mini skein was Andean plied to use up the rest, and it's only 2g, and only used 8 yards of singles, so they were pretty close in length.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4291_zps4d06c0e0.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4291_zps4d06c0e0.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4291_zps4d06c0e0.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This pictures gives you a better idea of the colours, though my camera hates blue-greens. It reminds me of the sea, it's got that sort of colour spectrum.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4296_zps7b016d2d.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4296_zps7b016d2d.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4296_zps7b016d2d.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I've also made a little project, my first ever crochet project. Meet Cthulhu, a present for my best friend<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF4304_zps0890110f.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4304_zps0890110f.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF4304_zps0890110f.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
In future, please remind me that a small and complicated toy with lots of little parts is not a good first crochet project! There are a fair few mistakes, but I don't think you can really see them. I had most problems with the wings, as they came out completely different, and I ended up making two right wings so that they would match.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF4302_zps2352fec7.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4302_zps2352fec7.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF4302_zps2352fec7.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Also, since it's the first of the month, a hexipuff update! I have 47 puffs now, and I'm making about 12 a month, which isn't bad.<br />
<br />
So onto the reason this post is late. I spent the weekend in London! Since I was at King's Cross on September 1st, there was somewhere I had to visit:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/DSC_0109_zps11c11812.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSC_0109_zps11c11812.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/DSC_0109_zps11c11812.jpg" width="299" /></a></div>
<br />
The queue for official pictures was over an hour long, so I didn't bother to wait, but that is Platform 9 3/4.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/DSC_0111_zpsa3a31036.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSC_0111_zpsa3a31036.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/DSC_0111_zpsa3a31036.jpg" width="299" /></a></div>
<br />
We got a great deal on the hotel, which is very posh! This is the grand staircase, and the entire place is decorated like this. It was a weekend of exhibitions, comedy shows, boat trips and a bit of shopping. I went to Loop Knitting in Islington, and decided to give in to the pull of the Wollmeise. I've heard so much about it that I had to try it!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4314_zps2582c2dc.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4314_zps2582c2dc.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4314_zps2582c2dc.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This picture shows the colours better. It's Poison Nr.5, and I didn't realise that it is a 150g skein, so I should get 2 pairs of socks from it!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4311_zps3bc66ae3.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4311_zps3bc66ae3.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4311_zps3bc66ae3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And then when I got home, there was drama, as Connor managed to hit himself on the head (we're not sure how), and has some memory loss. So I spent all of Sunday night in A&E, but he was discharged late on Monday with outpatient follow up, so hopefully there won't be any lasting problems. It was a bit scary for a while though...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Instead, I've been knitting mindless things, and have made another two preemie outfits.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF4203_zps994d7710.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4203_zps994d7710.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF4203_zps994d7710.jpg" width="380" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF4217_zps1f74c9fd.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4217_zps1f74c9fd.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF4217_zps1f74c9fd.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I really like this one, the colourway is called "Easter Basket," and I think it's really cute. I was a bit worried that all the different colours would overwhelm a preemie, but I think that there must be parents out there that would love the dress their little on in these bright, happy colours.<br />
<br />
This brings my total to donate to 9 cardigans, 5 hats and 2 bonnets, and I will be dropping them off at my hospital's NICU early next week.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF4231_zps4ea2f980.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4231_zps4ea2f980.jpg" border="0" height="234" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF4231_zps4ea2f980.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I am enjoying the long weekend, it's nice to know that I don't have to go into the hospital tomorrow, and I decided to start a new project that makes me happy, just because. I was gifted a <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/yarns/library/juno-fibre-arts-angora---tussah-silk">Juno Fibre Arts Angora/Tussah</a> braid, which was slightly felted, but was in gorgeous shades of blue and green.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4273_zpsc5950143.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4273_zpsc5950143.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4273_zpsc5950143.jpg" width="299" /></a></div>
<br />
It takes a fair bit of pre-drafting to spin it, but oh my god it is gorgeous. It's buttery soft and smooth, and I just want to roll around in it, and hug it and squish it! I'm in love, and I managed to spin an entire single yesterday, because I just didn't want to stop! I bet that I will have some finished yarn by the end of this weekend, and I will need to find the perfect project for it. Here's to hoping I don't ruin it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/5825787323_4738d46a99_z-001_zps2ca68ebf.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo 5825787323_4738d46a99_z-001_zps2ca68ebf.jpg" border="0" height="107" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/5825787323_4738d46a99_z-001_zps2ca68ebf.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/WIPs/DSCF4192_zps5f408ba0.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4192_zps5f408ba0.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/WIPs/DSCF4192_zps5f408ba0.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm really pleased with how it's looking. It's the first time I've ever used the recommended yarn for the pattern, as I bought the yarn about three years ago, before I knew that you didn't have to follow a pattern to the letter to make it look good, but I'm glad that I did. I think the two go together perfectly.<br />
<br />
But this week, I've really been on a preemie knitting kick.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF4189_zps1190fd8c.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4189_zps1190fd8c.jpg" border="0" height="312" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF4189_zps1190fd8c.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For anyone who doesn't know, I donate these tiny hats and cardigans to the neonatal intensive care unit at the hospital which I'm placed at. I love making sets, because I feel that micropreemies, and their families, deserve cute clothes just like any other. Being able to dress up their baby in something made with care and love add a bit of normality to a very difficult situation.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm always on the look out for stitch patterns that will fit on the hats and cardigans, but wouldn't overwhelm a tiny baby. The patterns would need to be between 4 and 12 stitches wide and no more than 16 rows high. If anyone has any suggestions, I would welcome them!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In none knitting news, I have started a trauma and orthopaedics attachment this week, and ironically, I managed to tear a ligament in my ankle at trampolining on Sunday, so I was on crutches all week, which has been a bit miserable. Thankfully, it was only a week, so I'm off them now, and limping around a bit. Hopefully it'll all clear up soon though!</div>

<br />
I'm still working on Arielle, but it's pretty slow going. Tiny yarn and needles combined with a pattern that I have to think about mean that I can only knit on it when I'm a) at home and b) awake enough to concentrate<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/WIPs/DSCF4152_zps23827425.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4152_zps23827425.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/WIPs/DSCF4152_zps23827425.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
So far I've got the waistband done, and picked up 120 stitches for the body. I reduced the number of repeats of the waistband pattern, because there was a lot of feedback on Ravelry that it was a bit too ruffly as written, so I'm hoping that this will lie flat.<br />
<br />
I've also been working on a spinning swatch of my Shetland Fleece. I wanted to see how long it would take me to get from raw fleece to yarn, and how much I would lose. I started with 35g of raw fleece, and after washing and carding, ended up with 24g of rolags.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4123_zps93153d22.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4123_zps93153d22.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4123_zps93153d22.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This was my first time using the hand carders I got for Christmas, so it took a bit of getting used to but it seemed to work in the end.<br />
<br />
I then spun up two singles and plied them, ending up with 20g of finished yarn (and ~4g of left over single)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4132_zps51cd9eda.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4132_zps51cd9eda.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4132_zps51cd9eda.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4137_zps46cf9911.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4137_zps46cf9911.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4137_zps46cf9911.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The finished yarn is around about aran weight, and I was hoping for DK, but I've got a bit of single to compare to when I spin the rest, so hopefully I can make it that little bit thinner. But it seems like it will make a really warm, cozy jumper, which is what I'm eventually aiming for.<br />
<br />
And then just for fun, here's a rainbow of hand knit socks! These are all the socks that I've made for myself, more than enough for one every day of the week...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF4145_zps7f3ef56a.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4145_zps7f3ef56a.jpg" border="0" height="248" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF4145_zps7f3ef56a.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Needs more yellow and orange don't you think? I may need to cast on some more...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/5825787323_4738d46a99_z-001_zps2ca68ebf.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo 5825787323_4738d46a99_z-001_zps2ca68ebf.jpg" border="0" height="107" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/5825787323_4738d46a99_z-001_zps2ca68ebf.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>

The first was the successful conclusion of all my spinning experiments last week<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4015_zps5d161140.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4015_zps5d161140.jpg" border="0" height="253" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4015_zps5d161140.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This is 15 skeins of different yarns, some dyed with Wilton's Icing Dye and some with Colourfast All-in-one Ultramarine. 8 of these skeins started as the same colour of greeny-turquoise, the dark blue on the right was yellow, and the middle skeins are variegated sock yarn overdyed with blue to make them fit into my colour scheme. All of them are going to become hexipuffs, and I've already started knitting with one of the sock yarns (the stripy blue in the picture below). I tried different methods include using different concentrations of the same dye, and tying the skein in knots to get 15 different skeins, all of which will eventually all become little puffs.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/WIPs/DSCF4108_zpsdbd64f5b.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4108_zpsdbd64f5b.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/WIPs/DSCF4108_zpsdbd64f5b.jpg" width="299" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This is this weeks supply of hexipuffs, the blanket is going well, I have about 40 puffs now, only 344 to go...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4059_zps374791c7.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4059_zps374791c7.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4059_zps374791c7.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I also found four <span style="background-color: white;">50cm strands of art yarn hanging around in my stash box when sorting to try and fit everything in. (Yes everything fits, except the stuff that’s in the other box, and the for sale bag, and the baby yarn bag, and the stuff for my next project, ooh and that random skein I found lying around…..)</span> So I decided to<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="background-color: white;"> play with my spinning wheel and see what I could do it. </span></span><span style="background-color: white; font-family: inherit;">I tried deconstructing it, drafting and respinning it, then practised Andean plying to get a barber pole effect. And I love it! It’s only 22 yards, but it’s a pretty 22 yards.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4075_zps599f68a3.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4075_zps599f68a3.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4075_zps599f68a3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4077_zps20bd90a5.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4077_zps20bd90a5.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4077_zps20bd90a5.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I have also finished Tubby, after a marathon bubble knitting session, followed by 50 (FIFTY!) french knots for bubble eyes. I finished this about about 1am, as I decided I wasn't going to bed until it was finished!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF4085_zps02d0d8db.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4085_zps02d0d8db.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF4085_zps02d0d8db.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF4086_zps4776b6f0.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4086_zps4776b6f0.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF4086_zps4776b6f0.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I've also started Arielle, but not got very far yet! Can you tell what it is yet?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/WIPs/DSCF4111_zps07eb272c.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4111_zps07eb272c.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/WIPs/DSCF4111_zps07eb272c.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And final yarny goodness. I got out my lovely Shetland fleece to have a look at. It seems to be really good quality, and I'm planning to have a go at washing and carding some of it to see how long it will take me to do the whole lot.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4065_zps8173d678.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4065_zps8173d678.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4065_zps8173d678.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4068_zpsa457b17d.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4068_zpsa457b17d.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF4068_zpsa457b17d.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm currently at my parents' for the weekend, as my consultant is on holiday next week, so I get almost a week off placement. I have an hour lecture on both Wednesday and Thursday, but that's all I have to do, so I though I'd take the opportunity to go see the family, since Connor has work experience in Leeds this week, so I could give him a lift. I also got to see my god-daughter, who has grown so much! I love seeing her, and we were a team playing bingo and won, though I can't guarantee we won since she kept marking off numbers when I wasn't looking. She's got really chatty now!<br />
<br />
Then today, my Mum finally got her birthday present, doing some laps in a Lamborghini. It was hilarious because they had to get the booster seat that was there for the small children who were having rides in a race car, as she couldn't see over the steering wheel!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/DSCF4097_zps6cf0b5c7.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4097_zps6cf0b5c7.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/DSCF4097_zps6cf0b5c7.jpg" style="cursor: move;" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I also got a lovely gift in the post this week. I'm doing some sewing and blocking for a lady on Ravelry who is sending two shawls to her nephew's new baby, and she sent me my very first pair of hand knit socks that I didn't knit myself! I'm so excited, no one ever knits for me!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/DSCF4082_zpsbf24bde9.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF4082_zpsbf24bde9.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/DSCF4082_zpsbf24bde9.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm going to knit and relax for the rest of the week, until I start a next placement a week on Monday, it's going to be lovely!<br />
<br />

Emma (GirlAnachronismE)http://www.blogger.com/profile/07354226176191037080noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1467539665147220343.post-82594371819628941682013-07-28T19:33:00.003+01:002013-07-28T19:33:37.672+01:00Third Year of Projects Week 4So I've had a busy week of playing with yarn. I mentioned last week that I was designing a chart for a Celtic Knot Hexipuff, which I have now done:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF3942_zps190f0ddb.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3942_zps190f0ddb.jpg" border="0" height="297" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF3942_zps190f0ddb.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out, and if you're interested, you can access the chart for free <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/celtic-knot-hexipuff">here</a>. It doesn't tell you how to make a hexipuff though, for that you will need the pattern for the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-beekeepers-quilt">Beekeeper's Quilt</a> from Tiny Owl Knits, which I can highly recommend!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/WIPs/DSCF3964_zpsab33a87e.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3964_zpsab33a87e.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/WIPs/DSCF3964_zpsab33a87e.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I've also swatched for Arielle. No idea of my gauge yet though, because I followed some advice on Rav and let the swatch hang under it's own weight for a few days to see how the cotton would stretch, so that will be my project for next week.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/WIPs/DSCF3971_zpsadb6cce6.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3971_zpsadb6cce6.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/WIPs/DSCF3971_zpsadb6cce6.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The main knitting I've been doing is Tubby here. I've finished the tub itself, but if you look to the right, you can see two small bubbles. The pattern calls for 25 of these, and they all need eyes! I hope I can bring myself to knit them all, they're incredibly fiddly and not very fun to make. I think I've decided that I don't like knitting toys with lots of small parts.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF3972_zpscde6596c.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3972_zpscde6596c.jpg" border="0" height="268" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF3972_zpscde6596c.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And this is why I said I've been playing with yarn. I've been winding balls of yarn that I got from ebay into skeins for washing, and in some cases dying. This is 25 skeins, including 10 which were originally 5 balls of yarn, so I had to split the two strands apart before skeining. Not pictured are the 18 other balls that I wound into skeins, which are all either drying or dying.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF3956_zps2d674d08.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3956_zps2d674d08.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF3956_zps2d674d08.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And then this is what I've been doing today. As you can see, there is some very greeny blue yarn and one skein of yellow. I've been playing with different dyes and concentrations to see what effect I can get, and I'm sure that next week will be full of pictures. I've used 2 colours of icing dye (though one doesn't seem to have worked and overdying will be needed), as well as some acid dyes I got from Woolfest last year.<br />
<br />
So that's my busy yarny week. I think I need to relax now!<br />

<br />
I'm so incredibly pleased with it. The gradient dyed yarn worked perfectly with the pattern, as it changed from orange to yellow at exactly the point that I needed it to. If there had been any more orange, the fill in sections at the top of the chevrons would have been orange at one side of the shawl, and the gradient wouldn't have moved up the shawl properly. I did a lot of complicated maths to make best use of all my yarn, as I had less than the pattern suggested, and it worked really well, though I did have to do a larger garter border at the top than as written. It's come out the perfect size, and it's perfect for summer evenings, because it's very light but still warm.<br />
<br />
I realised that I have spun 1/2 of one of the singles in the shawl, the entire of the other, plied them, dyed them, and knitted them up this month! I think I'm mad, and I think I need to go do some housework now!<br />
<br />
I've also been knitting a few hexipuffs for my beekeeper's quilt when at the hospital, as it's a really portable project, but it's still going to take ages! I've just tried to knit one with a celtic knot cable pattern on it, and it seems to have worked, so I might release the chart as a freebie next week.<br />
<br />
My plan for this evening is to swatch for <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/arielle">Arielle</a>, since I'm making it out of cotton, and I think it'll need soaking because it'll stretch and I want to see how much.<br />
<br />
So that's my knitting for the week. I've done rather a lot of shifts this week, as I've been on the emergency surgery ward, including an evening shift which is never fun to do as a student!<br />

I have finished one knitting project (a pair of socks I've literally just bound off), but it's Sooper Secrit for now, so I won't be showing pictures of it today.<br />
<br />
I've been doing a lot of non-knitting things though (warning, VERY picture heavy post ahead).<br />
<br />
Last Sunday, when it was gloriously sunny, I sat in the back garden with a bottle of cider and a barbeque, watching Andy Murray win the tennis, and spun on my spinning wheel.<br />
<br />
This is "Wool" which I got from UK Karma swaps quite a while ago, and which I started spinning into a single in 2012! The second is "Wool and Linen," from the same swap<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF1791.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF1791.jpg" border="0" height="238" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF1791.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF1794.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF1794.jpg" border="0" height="239" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF1794.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I finished the Wool single, and spun up the Wool and Linen into a single as well.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF3815_zps661d30bc.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3815_zps661d30bc.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF3815_zps661d30bc.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And plied them. The larger skein is fingering weight 2ply Wool/Wool and Linen (330 yards), whilst the smaller was the rest of the Wool single, Andean bracelet plied, and is again fingering weight (70 yards). This method of plying is something I haven't done before, and I massively overplied the yarn, and had to run it through the spinning wheel again to take out the twist (although I accidentally added more twist to start with, and now understand more about twist directions and how to tell which way to turn the wheel.)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF3831_zpse48b4110.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3831_zpse48b4110.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF3831_zpse48b4110.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Then yesterday, I decided it needed dying, using Wilton's Icing Dyes. I was finding it too hot to knit, so clearly it was entirely sensible to stand over a hot stove all day.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF3850_zpsaae9c646.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3850_zpsaae9c646.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF3850_zpsaae9c646.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I felt like a mad scientist playing with my dyes!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF3862_zps136b3027.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3862_zps136b3027.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF3862_zps136b3027.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I dyed the small skein red, and the larger one yellow, then dried the yellow and wound it into a tight ball.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF3868_zps5cd65bdd.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3868_zps5cd65bdd.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF3868_zps5cd65bdd.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I put the balls of yellow into an orange dye bath, and made sure it was all cover in the orange dye.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF3872_zps79dde3a5.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3872_zps79dde3a5.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF3872_zps79dde3a5.jpg" width="299" /></a></div>
<br />
This led to a gradient effect with the yellow slowly turning to orange<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF3876_zpsa1057614.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3876_zpsa1057614.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF3876_zpsa1057614.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And the finished yarn! The white flex in the yellow/orange are the bits of linen in the yarn, which obviously didn't take up the dye, as it's not an animal fibre.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/1324925637098-1.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo 1324925637098-1.jpg" border="0" height="239" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/1324925637098-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I also decided (as I had the dying bug), to try a different way of gradient dying yarn. This is some sock yarn that was a gift for Renee at <a href="http://yarnaddictconfessions.blogspot.co.uk/">Confessions of a Yarn Addict</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF3820_zps83bda979.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3820_zps83bda979.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF3820_zps83bda979.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I split each 50g skein into 5 equal 10g mini skeins, which were still joined together.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF3828_zps787e542b.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3828_zps787e542b.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF3828_zps787e542b.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I then mixed 5 different shade of dye bath (yellow, 50:50 yellow:orange, orange, 50:50 orange:red and red), and microwaved the yarn<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF3845_zps8cc33878.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3845_zps8cc33878.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF3845_zps8cc33878.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Here you can see the gradients really well<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF3853_zps6a117762.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3853_zps6a117762.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF3853_zps6a117762.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And the finished skeins. As you can see, the front skein is lighter than the back, as I don't think I stirred the yarn enough to equally distribute the dye, and it is also more golden rather than yellow, as I accidentally dipped the yellow mini-skein into the orange, and it took up some of the dye, even though I took it out immediately.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF1766.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF1766.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF1766.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Finally, I'd been meaning to dye this yarn blue for ages.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF3860_zps18da9d79.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3860_zps18da9d79.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Yarn%20and%20Fiber/DSCF3860_zps18da9d79.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
In the dye bath<br />

<br />
And the finished yarn. It's hard to see in the picture, but it has subtle variations in colour when you lok closely, as I tried not to stir it much.<br />
<br />
So that was my week of fibre arts! I'm now planning to knit the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lindisfarne-shawl">Lindisfarne shawl</a> in my handspun. I forgot to include in my list that I would actually like to knit up the things I spin, as well as spin them! I've entered the dying into the<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/groups/hp-knitting-crochet-house-cup"> Harry Potter Knit and Crochet House Cup</a> on Ravelry as a Not Quite First Year, as I've seen a lot of people being involved in it, and it looked really fun.<br />
<br />
Since this post is already super long, I might as well make it longer, and tell you about my life. I'm currently on a placement in Vascular Surgery, which I am really enjoying, although it's very long hours. I've also got involved in a audit, which my consultant is running, and which should be published with my name as one of the authors, which will be amazing, and very helpful for jobs.<br />
<br />
I feel like I'm actually helping, rather than getting in the way. On Friday, I scrubbed into surgery and was actually needed to help, rather than just standing there. Only problem was, it was 8 hours of standing with no food, no water and no way to go to the toilet. That wouldn't have been a problem if the air conditioning hadn't gone funny, making it 23 degrees in the operating theatre, and at least 33 under the surgical lights. The nurses were having to mop the surgeon's brow, which they apparently haven't had to do for 20 years.<br />
<br />
I've seen loads of interesting stuff, including emergency ruptured aneurysm repair, and the operation I was talking about above, which they apparently only have to do about twice a year, and I got a really good mid course appraisal from my consultant, who has also told one of my friends that I am "very enthusiastic."<br />
<br />
So that's my post, well done if you made it this far!<br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So it's time for my new list!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />I'm doing what a lot of people are doing this year, and being much more general with my list. It will still have specific patterns on it, but also just some categories. I've linked yarn to most of my projects, as one of my aims is to work mainly from stash, and at the very least have more yarns out than in this year</span><br />

<b><u>Sewing - 2 items</u></b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I'm not ending to complete either of these, but I would like to do some work on at least one of my sewing projects <a href="http://www.blogger.com/%20http://www.sewalong.co.uk/ProductFull.asp?sel1=%28CLA%29SA174" style="background-color: #fff1e4; color: #a90087; line-height: 21px; text-decoration: none;">Map of Yorkshire</a> and <span style="background-color: #fff1e4; color: #323232; line-height: 21px;">Gran's embroidery</span></span><br />

<span style="background-color: #fff1e4; color: #323232; line-height: 21px;">So that's my list. It's deliberately long, as it's everything I would like to do in the year, so I'm a bit more open with what I feel like doing. I have to say, unless a miracle happens, I don't see it getting finished, but I would like to make some progress on it.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="background-color: #fff1e4; color: #323232; line-height: 21px;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: #fff1e4; color: #323232; line-height: 21px;">I've already started on a sock design, using the I Knit and Dye Horses blue yarn pictured earlier, and have the design written up, with one sock knit. However, I've submitted it to a magazine for consideration (eeep!), so no pictures I'm afraid. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="background-color: #fff1e4; color: #323232; line-height: 21px;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: #fff1e4; color: #323232; line-height: 21px;">I did get a very cute certificate this week though</span></span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">It;s for volunteering to teach some beginner classes at my University last year. Don't you love our society name?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I was going to update on my life, but I'll probably do that later this week, as this post is long enough already!</span><br />

<br />
Last year, I managed 6/12 projects, so 50%. This year I've done <span style="color: #323232; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, Palatino Linotype, Palatino, serif;"><span style="font-size: 14.44444465637207px; line-height: 20.98958396911621px;">15/20 knitting projects and 1/3 sewing projects, plus managed to make 19 preemie baby items</span></span><br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>Socks </b><br />
<br />
I wanted to make a pair a month, and I didn't quite manage that, but I have made 9 pairs, so I'm taking that as a big achievement. I definitely think my sock knitting skills have improved over the year, and I've posted the pictures in order of completion date<br />

<b><br /></b>
There were only two things on this list that I didn't manage to make, and they'll be first on the list for next year. I still love them, it's just time to knit is shorter than I would like it to be. I did finish a project that I started in 2010 though, so the UFOs have all been done, and I made three big projects, including a sweater and a giant shawl, Celestarium, which is still my favourite project of the year.<br />

<br />
I fell down on this. I did get one long term WIP completed, but I haven't done any work on the other two projects. But they're both very long term projects anyway, and I didn't expect to get them done this year. I do need to give them a weekend though.<br />

So that's my list for the year, not a bad completion rate I think. I will be doing it again next year, though probably with a different knid of list, which is less specific patterns and more aims and skills I want to achieve. There'll still be a few patterns on there though!</div>

I have been knitting some more preemie items, since they're so quick and easy, but no pictures at the moment.<br />
<br />
But I've made a large amount of off list dishcloths. In fact, you could say I've been on a dishcloth spree.<br />
<br />

<br />
These are all designed by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/holynarf-lindsay">Holynarf</a>, and if you're a big Dr Who geek like me, I'm sure you'll recognise what's on them all. I can highly recommend all her designs, which are very easy to follow, and are only patterned on the right side, making them a very quick knit. I can make one of these in an hour or two.<br />

<br />
The last of these is <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/exfoliate-dalek-cloth">Exfoliate</a> another easy to follow pattern. I couldn't resist the bobbles, which make it the perfect Darlek cloth, since it looks so like them.<br />

<br />
I started placement again on Monday, doing a surgery placement, so I don't have a huge amount of time to knit, and mindless dishcloths have been perfect for when I come in of an evening and am tired out, since I'm still settling into the placement and the long drive there and back.<br />

(and somehow, I'm going to end up with 53 weeks in the year, not sure how that happened...)<br />
<br />
I've finally got around to finishing a few long lasting projects, so this is a very picture heavy post. The biggest is my School Days socks.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF3698_zps4c03d83e.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3698_zps4c03d83e.jpg" border="0" height="273" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF3698_zps4c03d83e.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF3695_zps70fb4bf3.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3695_zps70fb4bf3.jpg" border="0" height="273" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF3695_zps70fb4bf3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF3693_zps61c658ac.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3693_zps61c658ac.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF3693_zps61c658ac.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF3682_zpsba9e25bf.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3682_zpsba9e25bf.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF3682_zpsba9e25bf.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
For such an easy pattern, it has taken me a ridiculously long time to finish these. I'm really pleased with them, although the toes are a bit blocky, and I would start with less stitches if I were to make these again.<br />
<br />
I've also finished a couple of preemie cardigans. I have enough of this yarn left to make another two cardigans before I donate them, so I'll probably knit those in the next week.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF3684_zpsc5bcd4c7.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3684_zpsc5bcd4c7.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF3684_zpsc5bcd4c7.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And finally, I finished my longest project ever. This has been on my list for the last two years, and it was started in May 2010. It's been waiting for raindrops for that long, and it only took me an hour to finish once I picked it up again, don't know why I didn't do it before!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF3677_zpse21df022.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3677_zpse21df022.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF3677_zpse21df022.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I've also finished a few non-list projects. I decided to learn to crochet, as a summer project, and I've made a couple of "squares" (which aren't very square), to practise my stitches. Not sure what to do with them now, but they don't look too bad.<br />
<br />
It's a good job I decided to learn, because I got a gift of <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources/creepy-cute-crochet">Creepy Cute Crochet</a> from my best friend for my birthday, and I will have to make a Ninja at some point soon.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF3388_zps45a7e8a4.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3388_zps45a7e8a4.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF3388_zps45a7e8a4.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I needed to learn to crochet, to make the eyes for my Owly cushion, which I've also finished. It was a massive success with my friend, who did comment that I wasn't supposed to give her a present on my birthday! I've already had several requests from other people for one of these.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF3379_zps82fa3834.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3379_zps82fa3834.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF3379_zps82fa3834.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/Finished%20projects/DSCF3384_zps0804b51e.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3384_zps0804b51e.jpg" border="0" height="299" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/Finished%20projects/DSCF3384_zps0804b51e.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I had fun when I came to stuff it. I had a little bag of stuffing, and I commented that I wasn't sure I would have enough. Then I opened the packet, and there was a stuffing explosion! I was sitting on the sofa with stuffing covering me from head to toe, not sure how they crammed it all into that little package.<br />
<br />
Since I did a bit of travelling, I've also made about five Doctor Who themed dishcloths (so far), but I don't have pictures of those yet. So, all in all, a lot of knitting, which has been good for the summer. I'm back to University tomorrow, so I think that the rate of projects will slow down a bit again now though.<br />
<br />
The rest of this post is not knitting related, you have been warned!<br />
<br />
I did have a bit of a disappointment last weekend though. We were meant to be going to Spain for a few days, and originally we were delayed for six hours, due to the French air traffic controllers' strike, then we got onto the plane, and after an hour's waiting, the flight was cancelled, and we had to get off and go home.<br />
<br />
There were no more flights for the next two days, due to the strike, so we were out one holiday and quite a bit of money, as well as the holiday being my birthday present for my entire family. Since I don't really get any time off now for the next year, I was really upset about it, and my Mum (who is a star), stepped in to put money towards a spa day and a night in a hotel for me and Connor.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/2000-01-03163146_zps574019d0.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo 2000-01-03163146_zps574019d0.jpg" border="0" height="55" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/2000-01-03163146_zps574019d0.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
(Click to enlarge, you can see the whole spa)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
It was gorgeous, with a swimming pool and whirlpool, sauna, steam room, and outdoor hot tub that we sat in in the rain.<br />
<br />
And I got a free mini pedicure, so I have pretty pink toes.<br />

So it wasn't a complete wash out of a holiday, and then yesterday we went to <a href="http://www.downloadfestival.co.uk/">Download Festival 2013</a>, a rock festival, with my Dad, and had a really great day, seeing some amazing bands.<br />
<br />
So in the end, it was a great end to the holiday!<br />

<br />
I've had exams and all knitting went on hold for almost a month while I worked as hard as I could for them. Now that I'm on holiday, I'm enjoying sitting in the sun and knitting my heart out (as well as catching up on all the housework and washing that needed doing!)<br />
<br />
It seems like most of the knitting has been on non-list projects though. One of the things I've been working on off my list is my <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/school-days">School Days Socks</a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/WIPs/DSCF3353_zps6bc2242e.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3353_zps6bc2242e.jpg" border="0" height="300" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/WIPs/DSCF3353_zps6bc2242e.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
So far I've finished one sock and started another, and I'm pretty happy with them. The yarn is a gorgeous colour, and the pattern lets the yarn shine through without being boring. The pattern is really well written too, with the choice of fully written instructions, or a chart.<br />
<br />
I've also started a <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-beekeepers-quilt">Beekeeper's Quilt</a>, using blue sock yarn remnants. I've had this plan for a while, and now seemed like a perfect time to start it, as it's easily portable and doesn't take much concentration, for when I'm going places.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/WIPs/DSCF3300_zps7c4ba2b2.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3300_zps7c4ba2b2.jpg" border="0" height="300" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/WIPs/DSCF3300_zps7c4ba2b2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I have about 12 puffs so far, and they're so cute. Not sure I've got enough blue scraps to make the whole thing, but I really don't want to mix colours, so I'll just have to keep my eye out for more! I have to say, when knitting this, I keep singing "Everyday I'm Hexipuffling" to the tune of "Everyday I'm Shuffling," so I do get some weird looks...<br />
<br />
I'm also making a project to challenge myself. <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/owly-cushion">Owly Cushion</a> is going to be a new room warming (instead of housewarming) gift for my best friend, who's coming to stay for my birthday next weekend<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/WIPs/DSCF3347_zps1b7f892f.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3347_zps1b7f892f.jpg" border="0" height="300" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/WIPs/DSCF3347_zps1b7f892f.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This is my first time doing both intarsia and fairisle knitting, and I have to say I prefer the former. I'm finding it very hard to keep tension on my floats properly on the fairisle side.<br />
<br />
The cushion also involves learning to crochet, to make the eyes, so that's the next challenge, and three new skills in one project! It's also good to use up yarn scraps, which is good, because after my exams, I treated myself to not one, but two job lots of yarn off ebay. It's all really good stuff, but I'm not going to use it all, so I've listed the stuff I'm not going to use on my <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/people/GirlAnachronismE/stash/trade">destash page</a> on Ravelry. It's mainly vintage 4ply and undyed DK/sport weight wool, but please have a look if you're interested (shameless plug)...<br />

I've been knitting on preemie cardigans again when I've had time, and I've got two on the (same pair) of needles<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/WIPs/DSCF3167_zpsf42f5800.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3167_zpsf42f5800.jpg" border="0" height="300" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/WIPs/DSCF3167_zpsf42f5800.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I decided to knt two before stitching them together because the dark blue with white sleeves looked silly and this way I have one that is dark and light blue and one that is light blue and white without wasting any of my yarn. I actually really like this yarn, <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/yarns/library/teddy-bella-bambina">Teddy Bella Bambina</a>, the colour changes would be really nice for a bigger garment, and it's really soft, which isn't bad for £2 from the market.<br />
<br />
So that's my update, since exam work is taking up so much time! I will be reading everyone else's when I have time, and hope you've all had more interesting knitting weeks than me!<br />
<br />

I actually worked on my socks, since I spent 4 hours on a train last Thursday.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/WIPs/DSCF3160_zpsb6d41482.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3160_zpsb6d41482.jpg" border="0" height="300" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/WIPs/DSCF3160_zpsb6d41482.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
It's a really easy pattern to memorise, and I think it makes a nice effect out of the semi-solid yarn, because it adds a bit of interest without detracting too much from the lovely colours in the yarn. The pattern is also really well written, both charted and written out for people who don't like charts. The only thing I've found is that being a tight knitter strikes again, but since I know I'm a tight knitter, I know what needle size and number of stitches I need to make a sock fit me, so I'm making the large size, and I went up a needle size from what the pattern called for, and they seem to be fitting really well.<br />
<br />
However, I'm in the grip of exam work (3 weeks left, eek!), and I needed something even simpler to knit in breaks, so I cast on a preemie cardigan, since I know the pattern off by heart by now<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/GirlAnachronismE/media/WIPs/DSCF3156_zps810a1fc8.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF3156_zps810a1fc8.jpg" border="0" height="300" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa362/GirlAnachronismE/WIPs/DSCF3156_zps810a1fc8.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The yarn I'm using has big colour changes, so it looks a bit silly right now, with the one white arm. I'm planning to knit two more sleeves and another body, but in the opposite order to the way I knitted this one, so I can mix and match to have one cardigan in light blue and white, and the other in light and dark blue.<br />
<br />
We got a new washer/drier on Friday, which is very exciting as a) I haven't been able to wash for two weeks, and had to take two loads of laundry to my friends last weekend so I had something to wear for placement and b) I have a drier for the first time! I decided to wash and dry my Honka scarf, as I had heard that it softens acrylic slightly, and it came out silky soft, which is amazing as I have quite a sensitive face, and it was a bit itchy before.<br />
<br />
We've been enjoying the sun here, and decided to go wonder round a little town centre near us, as I had found out there was a LYS. It was very nice, and Connor was flicking through pattern books, and found a book with not one, not two, but three jumpers he wanted. Since he's never expressed any interest in a hand knit jumper, and they were all made in bulky wool, so it won't be too big an undertaking for a 6'3" guy, we bought it, so one of them will probably feature on my list next year.<br />
<br />
Not sure much list knitting will happen until after my exams, but I should have quite a collection to donate to the NICU by then!<br />
